Salon is Alo Food Group’s first space solely devoted to private events, conveniently located in the heart of Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood. Salon offers customizable dining experiences, including multi-course tasting menus inspired by Alo Food Group’s fine-dining flagship restaurant, Alo. The venue hosts weddings and celebrations, cocktail receptions, brand activations, corporate events, and other private functions.

Alo Food Group is seeking a Private Events Chef to join the culinary team at Salon Private Dining. 

 

Job duties: 

  • Plan, coordinate and execute culinary requirements for private events, including buffets, passed canapés and multi-course meals.

  • Select, develop and standardize recipes to ensure consistent quality, taste and presentation.

  • Prepare and update prep lists based on event menus and operational requirements.

  • Oversee culinary operations for private events from preparation and setup through service and completion.

  • Delegate tasks and provide direction and training to junior kitchen staff.

  • Ensure all dishes meet established standards for quality, taste, texture and presentation.

  • Monitor food and labour costs and assist with inventory, ordering and waste reduction.

  • Coordinate with the Chef de Cuisine, front-of-house staff and Alo Food Group team regarding event and operational requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, health and safety standards.

 

Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school is required. 

  • Cook's trade certification or equivalent culinary education, credentials or training is required.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial food preparation is required.

  • Experience in private events, catering, or fine-dining operations is required.

  • Experience in menu planning, recipe development and standardization, food costing, and inventory management is required.

  • Experience training, mentoring, and providing direction to junior kitchen staff is required.

  • Strong knowledge of professional food preparation, cooking techniques, ingredients, plating, and presentation standards is required.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, as required.

  • Comfortable working in hot and humid kitchen conditions for extended periods while maintaining focus and efficiency throughout service.
