Job Summary:

The Family Peer Support worker participates as a member of the Foundry team. The Family Peer Support Worker utilizes their own lived experience of supporting a youth or young adult who has experienced mental health or substance use challenges in the provision of peer-based mentoring. This position assists in the delivery of Foundry services and offers family and caregivers service navigation and resource information while providing individualized support. The Family Peer Support worker promotes family participation in services by fostering the development of respectful, collaborative relationships with families, youth and service providers. We are looking for a parent or caregiver who has own lived experience supporting youth and young adults not a person who has supported them as a staff member.

Your Role:

Archway’s Family Peer Support Worker with the Foundry Abbotsford contributes by:

  • Providing direct on-site or phone services to families and caregivers including providing support, guidance and mentorship.
  • Supporting and engaging families and caregivers as partners, assisting in developing wellness goals.
  • Supporting families and caregivers in accessing information, navigating Foundry services, accessing resources and developing skills.
  • Modelling hope and sharing living/lived experiences and lessons learned to support caregivers in achieving individual and family health and wellness goals.
  • Working collaboratively as an advocate and liaison between caregiver/family member, youth, Foundry staff and community partners.
  • Facilitating peer support and educational groups to promote skill development, engagement and foster peer-peer connection and networking opportunities.
  • Facilitating the engagement and participation of families (i.e., parents, caregivers, siblings, youth) in focus groups, surveys, and research and evaluation activities related to peer support.

 

This position is a great fit for someone who is able to use their own lived experience to further healthy, positive interactions with families and caregivers, and has a high degree of self awareness to apply appropriate boundaries.  The hours might expand if additional funding is secured.

  • A part-time, permanent position at 7 hours per week, some evening work will be required, hours worked will be determined in collaboration with successful candidate.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • One year experience as a parent/caregiver supporting youth or a young adult with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • One year experience as a parent/caregiver navigating local community services for youth or young adults with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • The ability to use one’s lived experience to further healthy, positive interactions with families and caregivers at differing levels of engagement.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources and supports.
  • Knowledge and acceptance of the multi-cultural diversity of the BC population, and well-developed cross-cultural skills.
  • The ability to switch tasks effectively to respond to competing priorities.
  • The ability to work flexible hours.
  • A satisfactory criminal record check is a condition of employment.
  • Covid vaccination is required as Foundry is a health program
