Job Summary:

The Urban Farm Assistant reports to the Farm Manager, Urban Farms and works at the discretion of the Crop Supervisor to ensure the Urban Farm has an adequate volume and variety of crops available for weekly sales.  This position will assist with crop production, workshops and volunteer groups, and participates in Farm Markets with the Urban Farm Community Coordinator.

Your Role:

Archway’s Farm Assistant with the Urban Farm contributes by:

  • Working with the vegetable and fruit crops by preparing beds, seeding, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, harvesting, etc.
  • Managing the watering schedule.
  • Preparing and packaging the crops to sell at the Farmers’ Market.
  • Mowing grass and maintaining the Urban Farm site.
  • Assisting with education programs and workshops for residents & school children in the Abbottsford/ Mission areas.
  • Assisting with family-friendly events and camps throughout the summer (June-August).
  • Assisting the Urban Farm Community Coordinator with hosting the sales booth at the local Farmer’s Market and other events as required.
  • Representing Archway Urban Farm at community education events such as Earth Day and Berry Fest.
  • Assisting with volunteer groups.

This position is a great fit for someone who likes physical outdoor work with crops, farming, and gardening.    

Our Offer

  • Wage:  $18.00 per hour
  • A part-time position at 24 to 30 hours per week, availability Tuesday to Saturday.
  • Temporary until September 2023.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • A high school diploma or working towards a high school or secondary school diploma.
  • Experience in sales and customer service preferred.
  • Experience with gardening, using garden equipment and other garden machinery and equipment preferred. 

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Ability to work weekends and/or evenings to assist with Farm Market sales.
  • Your own transportation to and from work and Farm Markets and events.
  • Ability for physical labour related to garden maintenance and crop production, which will include periods of constant motion including walking, repetitive tasks, lifting, bending, and long periods of standing.
  • Physical ability to lift between 20 and 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Ability to adhere to health and safety protocols.
  • A Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. 
  • A satisfactory criminal records check is a condition of employment.
