Wage:  $21.42 per hour

 Part Time: 18 hours per week

 Temporary until November 30, 2025

Job Summary:

The Youth Peer Support (YPS) Worker participates as a member of the Foundry Centre team.  The YPS Workers have their own lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges and have accessed services through their own journey. YPS Workers use this personal experience to support youth and young adults in service navigation, improving their health and wellness, and connecting with Foundry and/or community resources. The YPS Workers offer peer-based mentoring and emotional support and work collaboratively with youth, their families, and members of the care team. 

Your Role:

Archway’s Youth Peer Support Worker with the Foundry Abbotsford contributes by:

  • Ensuring the Centre offers a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and youth-friendly environment.
  • Establishing a purposeful relationship with young people and supporting their engagement and participation in Centre services and meeting with youth in an outreach capacity.
  • Providing support, guidance and mentorship for youth and their families and assisting in sharing information on resources and lived experience system navigation.
  • Accompanying youth to appointments in the community and participating in outreach with community partners.
  • Developing, leading, or co-facilitating group services to promote skill development and mental health and substance use recovery and relapse prevention.

This position is a great fit for someone who has lived experience with mental health and/or substance use issues, a passion for working with youth to increase their wellness and has a high degree of self awareness to apply appropriate boundaries.

Our Offer

  • Wage $21.42 per hour
  • A part time, temporary position at 18 hours per week, availability 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend availability required.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • Lived experience of mental health issues and/or substance use and willing to self-identify and share experience of recovery.
  • South Asian, Indigenous, BIPOC, immigrant or refugee, neurodiverse and gender diverse candidates will be given preference to reflect the Foundry’s client base.
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Willingness to complete Foundry’s recognized Youth Peer Support training program.
  • Class 7 (Novice) or Class 5 license and access to a vehicle considered an asset.
  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain therapeutic relationship with young people and family members and participate in outreach activities.
  • Knowledge of peer support practices and recovery.
  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
  • High degree of self-awareness and capacity to apply appropriate boundaries and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to adhere to health and safety protocols as this position has a high degree of contact with the public.
  • Ability to interact with people in difficult situations.
    • A satisfactory criminal records check is a condition of employment.
